“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And, because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Gratitude is actually the key to happiness. As Socrates is often quoted, “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.” The trials and tribulations that come along with the blessings are part and parcel of happiness. And, part of self-fulfillment involves being happy with what you have. #PrincipleEleven of The Tao Of Nia: “Cherish your blessings, great and small.”
During the day, pay attention to your blessings. Make the intention to mentally express gratitude for even a small blessing, such as free coffee at work or someone holding the elevator for you. Tonight, write at least three things you were grateful for during the day. Then, write one thing that has challenged you in the past year for which you are grateful. Even our challenges bring us blessings, and the wise take the time to recognize them.
